Recovery is a lifelong process and a difficult one at that. Those who bravely choose to walk the road of recovery from drug abuse, substance abuse, toxic relationships or any sort of addiction know that relapse is a very real possibility. Demi Lovato has lived her life in the spotlight since she was a child, and while fame and fortune make it look as if she’s living the good life without a care in the world, the singer faces addiction issues that have interrupted her life.
Lovato took a moment to reflect on her recovery journey by posting a series of texts on her Instagram story. “Today I would’ve had 7 years sober,” the 26-year-old wrote. “I don’t regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes but I must never forget that’s exactly what they were: mistakes.”
Last summer, Lovato was hospitalized after suffering a near-fatal overdose, reportedly after she ingested fentanyl-laced oxycontin. The singer was happy to share her recovery triumphs with fans after her release from rehab, but last month it was reported that she returned to a facility for her addiction.
